One of the most common reasons that people see a therapist is for sleeping problems. Now, the problem I think with sleep, is that most people assume that sleep is this thing that should just automatically happen, okay? A lot of people don't realize that getting to sleep is actually a learnable skill. It seems kind of weird to say that sleep can be a learnable skill 'because we just assume that all you have to do is go to bed and your body should just do it naturally', kind of like breathing. Unfortunately for some people, there's certain points in life, especially when things are becoming really stressful, that the sleep process just doesn't always happen naturally. That's okay because even if it doesn't happen naturally without having to try, we can actually learn the process of being able to slow the mind down and to relax long enough to be able to fall asleep.
Usually what will happen is, when we can't sleep, it'll be because our mind is just becoming overactive. Usually it's because we're going over worrying thoughts, we're ruminating about something over and over in our head. As a result, essentially what's happening is the unconscious mind's got it's guard up okay? Those worrying thoughts are a protection mechanism and it feels frightened that if it lets the guard down then all these bad feelings are going to begin flooding in. Once we understand how the process works, there is a learnable way to actually relax the mind and get to that point where we're able to fall asleep.
Now, it may be a little bit unusual to think of it in that way. It can be a little bit difficult to learn at first, but it's kind of like driving. When you first learned how to drive, it was a bit awkward. You had to indicate, steer, look out for all the traffic and read the signs. It wasn't easy to begin with, but similar to driving, after a while of learning how to do it, eventually you become unconsciously competent, which means that you could drive from point A to point B and not even remember the drive because when you do something enough times and you learn how to do it with repetition, eventually then you can get to that point where you can just do it naturally without having to try.
What I've done for you is I've put together an e-book that essentially details the process of learning how to actually get your mind to slow down and relax and slowly be able to let the guard down so that you can get to sleep. If losing sleep is an ongoing problem for you, whether it's being able to get to sleep or then waking up in the middle of the night with really bad feelings and not being able to get back to sleep, learning to do this process, learning this skill will definitely be worth your while, and will make a big difference not only to your nightime sleep patterns, but to the quality of life that you experience during the daytime as well.
If that sounds good to you just go ahead and click the link below and download the e-book or if you prefer to listen rather than read, you can always download the audio book as well. Either way, I think you're gonna get a lot out of this that will help teach you some really simple yet practical skills, that make a big difference to your sleeping patterns.
Talk to you soon.
