STARTING A GROUP
FAQS
IS IT FOR ME
As a relatively new organisation we may not currently be able to link you to an existing group in your area, but if you would like to start your own group we can definately provide you with the information and materials you need to get started.

GETTING STARTED

Getting started is relatively easy. As a facilitator you have the opportunity to start your own group anywhere in the world. You decide when and where you will operate so that it suits you and there is a great many flexible options for you to achieve this goal. As a DVA facilitator you will be supported in a variety of ways, for more specific information about that, be sure to check out the FAQ at the bottom of this page.

WHAT NEXT

To get started, register your interest with us here today by filling out the contact form below. We will be in touch to talk with you more about the opportunity and will be available to answer all your questions. Although you may be starting a new group it is important for us to stay in touch with you through every step of the process so that you are not going it alone. What you are doing is not only a great thing for yourself and others but it all contributes to creating a happier, healthier and safer world for everyone.

HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO RUN THE GROUP?

There is no commitment. This question is answered more thoroughly below but it is important to know that there is never any commitment or obligation on your behalf.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I MOVE OR BECOME BUSY?

Life sometimes 'gets in the way' as it often does and that's why there is absolutley no commitment for you to keep the group going. In fact, you may find thatthere is another member of the group happy to take over from you and keep it going. There are no rules or restrictions, you are not an employee or required to do anything. In fact, you were never required to start a group in the first place, you did it because you wanted to make a difference and help others, you may not have been able to attend another group as it was too far or did not yet exist so you made it happen.

WHAT WILL IT COST ME?

This is completely up to you and depends on several factors, you may have some free space somewhere that does not cost you anything to provide. You may have an arrangement with the principal of your childs school perhaps you just have to clean up after yourself, you may hire a hall and cover the entire the cost yourself, or you may collect contributions in the group to help you which will be covered in more detail next. You may or may not provide refreshments and snacks, again this is completely up to you. It is almost like running your very own business really, the sky is the limit. At the end of the day, to get started we suggest finding somewhere with little or no cost and that way as the group grows you can look for alternatives but to get the group up and off the ground you dont want to be stuck forking out unecessary funds for things.

How much money will i make?

As a not for profit organisation DVA is not allowed to make money, we can recieve donations and contributions that help us cover administration costs and the same goes for you and your group. Accepting a gold coin donation or charitable contribution to help you cover the costs of the hall or premises is reasonable however you can not demand or charge people to come by it is something that remains completely up to them, we are not here to make a profit from people or run a business, we are here to help. If you decide to start your own group you will be provided with more information and you can speak with Shane personally, if you would like.

WHAT WILL I GET?

As a not for profit, we rely on government funding, grants, donations and contributions to keep our groups going and there is a lot of costs involved. Rest assured that we are continually working to grow the organisation so that we can provide you with more materials, such as books and pamphlets that you can use to promote the group and give to attendeees looking for extra help. We are currently developing a range of online material that you will be able to access in the future and can direct members of your group towards also.
